Our Origin Story
In 2021 our daugher, then 12, was struggling with period pain. It was the first time any of our girls had this issue, so we started to look for something natural to help her. Frustrated with the lack of options, we asked our Nutraceutical company's Director of Product Development, Tom, if he could compound something for her. Women's Wellness Tea was born for periods, postpartum, premenstrual and perimenopause. The science told us it would be beneficial for many menstrual issues. Our own experiences showed us how incredible it was. The constant stream of teenage visitors asking us if we had any of that "Pink Tea" testified to how well it worked.
Tom was the least surprised. He explained that for centuries, as humans, we have known that plants could be used to relieve our ailments. The problem with most tea blends has been a loss of generational knowledge teaching us how to prepare the plants for our benefit. Showing dried leaves in a bag rarely gets the job done. Modern peer-reviewed research studies have solved this problem. These studies have proven precisely which part of the plant to use, how to prepare it and in which dosages to ensure it works. That's why our blends are not all "leaves" HEART, for example, is very much a twigs and berries blend.
In 2022, we were selling our INÒU branded nutraceuticals to the public. Women's wellness tea was added to the website. It SOLD OUT within 10 days. Our second devilery SOLD OUT in 5 days. Our R&D meetings were soon dominated by discussions of blends, brews and common ailments we could relive with a simple, cost-effective cup of tea. Our second blend, "Men's Health Tea", was developed especially for my business partner and husband, Mark. Having battled a lifelong blood pressure issue along with the stress of managing multiple business entities, travelling for work and grabbing anything to eat on the go, we realised the commonality of these issues (heart health, gut health, maintaining healthy blood sugar levels) we also realised it was not just a male issue, the name Mens' Health Tea didn't fit. In 2023, we migrated the INÒU company to a practitioner-only wholesale business and shipping model. With three other teas in development and hundreds of monthly retail orders, we could no longer service, we decided to put the "tea company" on hiatus. The teas deserved to live on, as a brand in their own right.
Fast forward to 2024 The Functional Tea Company was born. Women's Wellness Tea had been rebranded to PINK TEA, Mens' Health Tea was rebranded as HEART.
2025, after moving our business to the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, we have relaunched our incredible tea range. PINK AND HEART are now available.

Fun Fact: Did you know that PINK tea gets its natural colour from the small pieces of dried, dark pink dragon fruit in the blend? It's also a source of plant-based iron, required to replace red blood cells; it's packed full of antioxidants and phytochemicals, such as flavonoids, phenols, anthocyanins, and betalains, which contribute to its health benefits. The subtle flavour and pretty colour are just a coincidence.
